Preparation is a two year formation process

Children entering Grades 1 and 2 begin preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

During the fall of Grade 2, children are presented by their parents to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

During the Easter season of Grade 2, children receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist.


Sacramental Timeline for 2016-2017

Families attend Mass weekly. Please bring your children forward during Communion to witness the reception of the Eucharist. We strongly encourage families in this two year formation process to attend the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass for Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW).

Communion Choice Parent Correspondence will be sent via email the last week in August to choose your Communion Date.
We ask that all choices are received by our Religious Education Office by September 30. Families are required to provide a First and Second Choice. If two dates are not provided, our office will assign your second choice.

Monday, October 17  -  Parent Meeting from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the church (Doors open 6:30 pm):

Parents/Guardians only are required to attend. This meeting is for adults. We will review take home materials, the theology of the sacraments, Reconciliation time and Eucharist dates are distributed along with schedules.

Saturday.December 10 - The Sacrament of Reconciliation at 11 AM or 1:30 PM.

Parents present their children for the sacrament. Your time will be assigned.

Practice will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7th 6:30 and 7pm. Your time will be assigned.

Sunday, January 8 - Jesus Day Retreat in the gym from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

One parent/guardian is asked to attend, along with their child, for this one-time retreat for a day of preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Due to the large number of students, we are only permitting one parent to attend. Each child will design a Blessing Cup with our guest speaker, Ray Boswell, who is a professional potter. 


Sunday March 12- Blessing Cup Mass at 9:00AM or 10:30AM - There are no Sunday Morning Classes on this day.  * Note Daylight Savings 

Children will attend mandatory Mass at the listed time with their parents and family. Each child’s Blessing Cup from our Jesus Day Retreat will be blessed along with our children and distributed at the end of Mass.

Session 1 Families attend the 9:00 AM Mass

Session 2 Families attend the 10:30 AM Mass

Whole Family attend the 10:30 AM Mass

Saint Bartholomew Academy Families attend the 9:00 AM Mass

First Eucharist Dates and Rehearsal Times

It is mandatory for both Parents /Guardians to attend along with your child.  

Siblings are welcome to attend.

Please make every effort to be at rehearsal.
