The Office of Divine Worship at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Parish, under the direction of Paul Milan and Patricia Krema works to coordinate all the various elements required to celebrate the sacred liturgy in a worthy manner. Good liturgy involves both clergy (priests and deacons), and a variety of lay ministers (altar servers, lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ministers of Hospitality, music ministers). In addition, a fully engaged, actively participating assembly is essential to the good liturgy.
To back it up a bit, just what is “liturgy”? Liturgy is the public worship of the Church. In our Christian tradition, liturgy is the participation of the people of God in the work of God. We believe that Christ is present in his Church, especially in liturgical celebrations. He is present in the Eucharist, in the person of the priest, in the proclamation of the Word of God and in the assembly when we pray and sing. We recall Christ’s promise "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matt. 18:20).
To worship well, the texts, preaching, music, art and environment, posture, movement, and prayer of the assembly should come together to form a unified and dignified whole.
